AMC Mad Men Kyo Sakamoto Sukiaki that great song from last week show Aug 3 2008,from 1961 Japan’s only top ten in the USa..wow great scene..Don Draper at his best…Don’s waitress at the Japanese restaurant asks if he wants her to swing back around on her way out. “Not tonight,” he replies. Don Draper is the Creative Director at the Sterling Cooper advertising agency Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakomoto, a hauntingly beautiful and memorable song, definitely appropriate for the setting. The only problem is that the song was not released in the U.S. until May 1963, and reached Number on on Billboard in June 1963. Although it was released in Japan in 1961, seems nearly impossible that it would have been background music at a NY restaurant anytime before May of 1963. Elizabeth Tsing is the waitress I believe…

Why would it be impossible for a japanese-themed restaurant in NY to play a popular song in Japan, that just happened to not be popular in the USA, yet???
The restaurant was probably looking for authentic japanese music….
